As part of our commitment to create neighbourhoods and communities that are popular places to live Herefordshire Housing has been investing in the communal garden area at Jubilee Court, Newton Farm and has carried out some much needed improvements to benefit the community.
Residents told us that the Communal area was not being used because there weren't adequate facilities for them. We asked the residents what they would like to see and what improvements we could carry out to make a real difference to the community. Responding to what residents told us and working directly with them we identified a number of areas for improvement.
We looked to make the area more pleasant for everyone to enjoy and did this by landscaping it and planting shrubs and trees and providing a seating area. We also replaced the footpaths and improved the fencing and lighting to make the area more private and secure.
Residents had reported problems with the bins being pushed over, which was creating a mess, so we provided new bin stores to solve the problem. We also improved the drying areas for residents, which were previously not used because they were in poor condition.
Previously, some residents had experienced problems with anti-social behaviour in the communal halls and stairs of the flats, so we fitted new communal entrance doors to improve the security.
Asset and Partnering Manager, Tony Jones said, "We've responded to what the community have told us and the improvements have made a real difference for Jubilee Court. It's fantastic to see the residents outside enjoying the area and making use of the facilities."
